Your avatar is the profile picture displayed on your character page. You can upload multiple avatars and switch between them.

#### Uploading an Avatar

1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Open the **Avatar** section in the builder sidebar
3. Click **Upload** or drag and drop your image
4. Your new avatar is saved to your library and set as active

You can store multiple avatars and switch between them at any time. Click on any avatar in your library to set it as your active avatar.

To remove an avatar from your library, click the delete button on the avatar you want to remove. Your active avatar cannot be deleted, so switch to a different one first.

#### Avatar Styling

In the builder, you can customize how your avatar looks on your page:

- **Shape**: Circle, rounded square, or square
- **Size**: Adjust the avatar size on your page
- **Border / Ring**: Add a border or ring effect around your avatar

### Display Name, Bio & Pronouns

#### Display Name

Your **display name** is the name shown prominently on your profile page. It's separate from your username.

Display name is a **Pro** and **Elite** feature. Free plan users display their username instead.

To set your display name:
1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Find the **Display Name** field in the builder
3. Enter your preferred name and save

Your display name can include any characters. It doesn't have the same restrictions as your username.

#### Bio

Your bio is a short description that appears below your name on your profile. Use it to tell visitors who you are, what you play, or whatever you want.

To edit your bio:
1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Find the **Bio** field in the builder
3. Write your bio and save

**Rich bio** (HTML formatting) is available on **Pro** and **Elite** plans. Free plan users can write plain text bios.

#### Pronouns

Display your pronouns on your profile, shown next to your name. Free for all plans.

To set your pronouns:
1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Find the **Pronouns** field in the builder
3. Enter your pronouns (e.g. he/him, she/her, they/them) and save

Pronouns follow the format `word/word` and are displayed as a subtle label next to your display name or username.

#### Location

You can optionally display a location on your profile, like a city, country, or anything you'd like to show. This is a simple text field with no verification.

### Links

Links are the core of your mychar.gg page. Add your social media, gaming platforms, streaming channels, and any custom URLs so visitors can find you everywhere.

#### Adding a Link

1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Click **Manage Links** in the builder sidebar
3. Click **Add Link**
4. Choose a **predefined link type** (e.g., Twitch, Discord, Twitter) or create a **custom link**
5. Enter the URL or value and save

#### Predefined vs. Custom Links

**Predefined links** come with a built-in icon and label for popular platforms. When you select a predefined type, the icon is automatically applied and the field validates your input accordingly.

**Custom links** let you link to anything. You provide:
- A **label** (what visitors see)
- A **URL** (where the link goes)
- An optional **custom icon** (upload your own image)

#### Link Limits

Predefined link types (Twitch, Discord, etc.) do not count toward your custom link limit. Only custom links do.

#### Managing Your Links

##### Reorder Links
Drag and drop links to change the order they appear on your profile. The order in the editor is the order visitors see.

##### Custom Icons
Upload a custom icon for any link to replace the default platform icon. Click the icon area on a link to upload your own image.

##### Delete Links
Click the delete button on any link to remove it from your profile.

#### Link Display Style

In the builder's theme settings, you can control how links appear on your page:

- **Icon only**: Shows just the link icon
- **Icon + Label**: Shows the icon alongside the link name
- **Label only**: Shows just the text label

#### Show as Embed

Show as Embed is an **Elite** feature.

Elite users can enable embed previews on individual links. When enabled, the link displays a rich embed preview (similar to how links appear in Discord) instead of the standard link button.

### Games

The games section lets you display which games you play and your in-game usernames, so visitors can find and add you.

Games are selected from a predefined catalog maintained by the mychar.gg team. Each game comes with its own logo that displays on your profile.

#### Managing Games

- **Reorder**: Drag games to change their display order on your profile

#### How Games Display

On your public page, each game shows:
- The game's logo
- Your gamer handle for that game

Visitors can see at a glance what you play and how to find you in-game.

### Achievements

Achievements are badges that appear on your mychar.gg profile. Some can be claimed by completing specific actions, while others are granted by admins for special recognition.

Go to **Achievements** from your dashboard sidebar to see all available achievements. Each one shows:

- **Name** and **icon**
- **Description** of what the achievement represents
- **How to unlock** it
- Whether you've already claimed it

#### Types of Achievements

##### Discord Member
Verify that you're a member of the mychar.gg Discord server. Connect your Discord account first, then claim this achievement from the achievements page.

##### Discord Booster
Verify that you're actively boosting the mychar.gg Discord server. Requires a connected Discord account and an active server boost.

##### Donation Achievements
Support the platform by making a donation via Stripe. Some donation achievements have a fixed amount, while others let you choose a custom amount. Payment is processed securely through Stripe.

##### Admin-Granted Achievements
Special achievements that are manually awarded by the mychar.gg team for outstanding contributions, events, or other recognition.

#### Claiming an Achievement

1. Go to **Achievements** from your dashboard
2. Find an achievement you're eligible for
3. Click **Claim**
4. For Discord achievements, your membership/boost status is verified automatically
5. For donation achievements, you'll be directed to a secure payment flow

#### Displaying Achievements

Claimed achievements appear on your public profile. You can:

- **Toggle visibility**: Show or hide individual achievements
- **Reorder**: Drag achievements to set their display order

Only achievements you choose to show will be visible to visitors.

### Video Clips

#### Player Settings

In the builder, you can configure how the audio player behaves:

- **Shuffle**: Enable shuffle mode to randomize track order
- **Volume**: Set the default volume level for visitors
- **Show / Hide Player**: Toggle whether the audio player is visible on your page. When hidden, audio still plays but visitors won't see player controls.

Be mindful of copyright. Only upload audio you have the right to use. See the [Acceptable Use Policy](https://mychar.gg/legal/acceptable-use) for details.

### My Setup

The setup section lets you display your gaming gear, PC specs, peripherals, and a photo of your setup directly on your profile. Free for all plans.

#### Adding Setup Items

1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Click **Manage Setup** in the setup section
3. Click **Add Item**
4. Select a **category** (e.g. PC, Monitor, Keyboard)
5. Enter the **item name** (e.g. "RTX 4090")
6. Optionally add **details** (e.g. "32GB DDR5") and a **product link** (e.g. an Amazon URL)
7. Save

#### Categories

Items are organized into categories:

You can add multiple items per category (e.g. two monitors).

#### Product Links

Each item can optionally include a product link (e.g. an Amazon or manufacturer URL). On your public profile, items with links are displayed as clickable text that opens in a new tab. Visitors see the link domain on hover so they know where it goes before clicking.

#### Setup Photo

Upload a single photo of your setup. It appears alongside your gear list on your profile.

1. Open **Manage Setup**
2. Click **Upload setup photo** (or the replace button if one already exists)
3. Select an image file

To replace your photo, click the replace button on the existing photo. To remove it, click the delete button.

If you only upload a photo without adding any items, the photo displays larger on your profile.

- **Edit**: Update the name, details, category, or product link of any item
- **Delete**: Remove an item from your setup

#### How Setup Displays

On your public profile, the setup section shows:
- Items grouped by category on the left, with category icons and labels
- Your setup photo as a thumbnail on the right (click to view full size)
- Items with product links are underlined and open in a new tab

### Comments

Comments are a **Pro** and **Elite** feature. Free plan users cannot enable comments.

Let visitors leave comments on your mychar.gg page. Comments appear as a widget in one of the four corners of your page, showing 5 comments at a time with pagination.

#### Enabling Comments

1. Upgrade to **Pro** or **Elite** plan
2. Go to **Customize** and open the **Layout** section in the builder sidebar
3. Under **Widgets**, toggle the eye icon next to Comments to show it
4. Drag the comments widget to your preferred corner, or use the mini-preview to click a corner

#### Comment Settings

Click the gear icon on the comments widget (in edit mode) to open comment settings.

#### Widget Positioning

Comments is a widget, just like the audio player and views counter. You can:

- Comments always appears below other widgets when in the same corner

#### Managing Comments

- **Delete**: Hover over any comment and click the trash icon to remove it
- **Report**: Other users can report inappropriate comments using the flag icon (single-click)

#### Comment Limits

### Friends

The friends feature lets you connect with other mychar.gg users and choose which friends to display on your public character page.

#### Adding a Friend

There are three ways to send a friend request:

##### From the Dashboard
1. Go to **Dashboard** > **Friends**
2. Search for a username — select the user from the dropdown
3. Click **Send Request**

##### From the Customize Page
1. Open the **Customize** page
2. Click **Manage friends** on the Friends section
3. Search for a username in the modal and click **Send**

##### From a Character Page
1. Visit someone's character page
2. Click the **Add Friend** button (the user icon in the action bar)

The other user will see a pending friend request on their dashboard.

#### Managing Friend Requests

Go to **Dashboard** > **Friends** and switch to the **Requests** tab to see:

- **Incoming requests**: People who want to be your friend. Click **Accept** or decline with the X button.
- **Outgoing requests**: Requests you've sent that are waiting for a response. Click **Cancel** to withdraw.

You'll see a red badge on the Friends item in your dashboard sidebar showing how many pending incoming requests you have. The count updates in real time as you accept or decline requests.

#### Choosing Which Friends to Display

Friends are **not displayed by default** — you choose which friends appear on your page.

1. Go to **Customize**
2. Click **Manage friends** on the Friends section
3. Click on a friend to toggle the eye icon:
   - **Eye open** = displayed on your page
   - **Eye closed** = hidden
4. Click **Save**

Each user controls their own display independently. Just because someone displays you doesn't mean you have to display them.

#### Friends on Your Page

Displayed friends appear in the **Friends** section on your character page, showing:
- Their avatar
- Their username (clicking opens their page in a new tab)
- A friend count next to the section title

#### Customization

In the **Customize** builder:
- **Reorder**: Drag the Friends section to change where it appears on your page
- **Visibility**: Toggle the entire Friends section on or off
- **Custom title**: Pro+ users can rename the section heading (pencil icon badge)

#### Removing a Friend

To remove a friend:
1. Go to **Dashboard** > **Friends**
2. Click the **unfriend** button (person-minus icon) on the friend's card

Removing a friend removes the connection from both sides and removes them from both character pages.

#### Friend Limits

When you reach your friend limit, you won't be able to accept or send new friend requests until you remove an existing friend or upgrade your plan.

### Custom Domain

With the Custom Domain add-on you can point a domain you own at your character page. Visitors see your domain, like `yourname.gg`, instead of `mychar.gg/username`. Your mychar.gg link keeps working.

The add-on is a monthly subscription, available on every plan, including Free. You can get it from the [pricing page](https://mychar.gg/pricing), your billing settings, or directly on the Domain page in your dashboard.

Both root domains (`example.com`) and subdomains (`links.example.com`) are supported. SSL is set up automatically, so your page is always served over https.

#### Connecting Your Domain

1. Go to **Dashboard > Settings > Domain**
2. Enter your domain, without `https://` or paths
3. For root domains, optionally enable the www redirect so `www.yourdomain.com` works too
4. Click **Connect domain**
5. Follow the DNS instructions shown in the dashboard

Your email is safe: connecting only adds a single DNS record. Mail settings (MX records) stay unchanged.

#### Verifying Ownership

If your domain was used on certain hosting platforms before, you are asked to prove you own it first. The dashboard shows a TXT record to add at your registrar. Add it, wait a few minutes, then click **I've added the record**. This is only needed once.

#### DNS Records

The exact values are shown in your dashboard, with copy buttons. Always use the values from the dashboard, they can differ per domain.

How to add a DNS record at popular registrars:

- **Namecheap**: Domain List > Manage > Advanced DNS > Add New Record
- **GoDaddy**: My Products > DNS > Add
- **Cloudflare**: Select your site > DNS > Add record. Set the record to **DNS only** (gray cloud, not orange)

#### How Long Does It Take?

DNS changes usually apply within minutes, but can take up to 48 hours depending on your registrar. The dashboard checks automatically and shows a green **Live** status once your domain works. SSL is issued automatically right after.

#### Common Issues

| Problem | Fix |
|---------|-----|
| Added a CNAME on a root domain | Root domains need an A record. A CNAME on the root breaks email and other records. |
| Typed the full domain in the Name field | Enter only the subdomain part (e.g. `links`), not `links.example.com`. |
| Cloudflare proxy enabled | Set the record to DNS only (gray cloud). The proxy blocks SSL setup. |
| CAA records on the domain | If your domain has CAA records, add one allowing `letsencrypt.org`, or SSL cannot be issued. |
| Status stays on Waiting for DNS | Check propagation with [whatsmydns.net](https://www.whatsmydns.net). If records look right, give it a few more hours. |

#### Removing Your Domain

Click **Disconnect** in Dashboard > Settings > Domain. Your page immediately stops being served on the domain, and `mychar.gg/username` keeps working. While your add-on is active, you can reconnect the same or another domain at any time.

#### Canceling the Add-on

You can cancel anytime from your billing settings. Your domain keeps working until the end of the billing period, then it is disconnected automatically. Your mychar.gg link is never affected. Re-subscribing lets you reconnect the domain.

#### Early Supporters

If you connected a domain as an Elite user before the add-on existed, that domain stays connected for free. This free access is tied to that specific domain: if you disconnect it, connecting a new domain requires the add-on.

### The Builder

The builder is where you design your mychar.gg page. It opens your real page in edit mode: you change things directly on the page, and a sidebar on the right holds the styling options. What you see while editing is exactly what visitors will see.

#### Opening the Builder

From your dashboard, click **Customize Character** (or navigate to `/customize`). The builder opens with your current page loaded.

#### How It Works

On the page itself, click your display name, bio, pronouns, or location to edit them in place, and click a section such as links or games to manage it. Drag widgets (the music player, view counter, and comments) to a corner of the page, and drag sections and links into the order you want from the **Layout** section and the links manager.

The builder sidebar on the right contains all your customization options, organized into sections:

Links, games, achievements, your setup, and friends are managed from the page itself: click the section to open its manager.

Your page updates in real time as you make changes, so you always see the result before you save.

#### Saving Changes

Click the **Save** button to apply your styling changes. The builder tracks unsaved changes and will warn you if you try to navigate away without saving. Uploads (avatar, background, cursor) and widget moves are saved right away.

#### Reset to Defaults

If you want to start fresh, you can reset your customization back to the default settings. This clears all your styling choices (backgrounds, colors, effects, etc.) but keeps your content (links, games, achievements).

Resetting to defaults cannot be undone. Make sure you're happy with the decision before confirming.

You can store multiple backgrounds and switch between them at any time.

#### Video Backgrounds (Pro)

Pro and Elite users can upload video backgrounds (MP4 or WebM). Videos play automatically, are muted, and loop continuously.

- Videos are silent - there is no audio playback from video backgrounds
- All background adjustments (opacity, blur) and gradient overlays work with videos just like with images
- Background effects can be layered on top of video backgrounds

Keep videos short and seamless for the best looping experience. A 5–15 second clip at 1080p works great.

If you downgrade to Free, video backgrounds become locked. During the 7-day grace period you can resubscribe to unlock them, otherwise they will be removed.

#### Background Adjustments

Fine-tune how your background looks:

- **Opacity**: Control the transparency of your background image (0–100%)
- **Blur**: Apply a blur effect to soften the image (0–20px)

#### Gradient Overlay (Pro)

Pro and Elite users can add a gradient overlay on top of their background:

- **Gradient Color**: Pick a color for the gradient using the color picker
- **Gradient Opacity**: Control how visible the gradient is

This is useful for ensuring your text remains readable over busy background images.

#### Background Effects (Pro)

Animated effects add life to your page. Effects are available on Pro and Elite. Select an effect from the dropdown in the background settings.

### Colors & Theme

Control the color scheme and visual style of your page.

#### Primary Color

Your primary color is used for buttons, highlights, and accent elements throughout your page. Click the color picker to choose any color you want.

#### Text Color

Set the main text color for your page. This affects your display name, bio, and other text content. Choose a color that contrasts well with your background for readability.

#### Card Colors

Cards are the containers that hold your content sections (links, games, etc.). You can customize:

- **Card Background Color**: The fill color of your cards
- **Card Opacity**: How transparent the cards are (0–100%)
- **Card Blur**: A blur effect behind semi-transparent cards (frosted glass look)

For a clean frosted glass effect, set card opacity to around 50–70% and add a slight blur. This works especially well with background images.

#### Icon Style

Control how platform icons appear on your page:

- **Free**: Default, Bordered, and Glow styles
- **Pro**: adds animated styles like Neon, Bounce, and Pulse
- **Elite**: adds exclusive styles like Rainbow, Glitch, Shake, and Flicker

You can also adjust the **icon size** to make icons larger or smaller.

#### Section Visibility & Order

From the builder, you can:

- **Toggle sections** on and off to hide any section you don't want to display
- **Reorder sections** by dragging them into the order you prefer
- **Show/hide section titles** to choose whether section headings are visible

#### Custom Section Titles

Custom section titles are a **Pro** and **Elite** feature.

Rename any section heading on your profile to something more personal. For example, change "Games I Play" to "My Gaming Collection" or "My Links" to "Connect With Me".

##### How to Edit

1. Go to **Customize** from your dashboard
2. Make sure **Show section titles** is enabled in the builder sidebar
3. Click directly on any section title in the live preview
4. Type your custom title and press **Enter** or click away to confirm
5. Save your changes

If you leave a title empty, it falls back to the default:

Choose from a selection of built-in fonts. The default font is **Rajdhani**, a modern angular typeface. Additional system fonts are available to all users.

#### Font Weight

Adjust the thickness of your text. Options range from light to bold, depending on the font selected.

#### Font Scale

Control the overall text size on your page. Increase the scale for larger, more prominent text or decrease it for a more compact look.

#### Custom Fonts

Custom font uploads are an **Elite** feature.

Elite users can upload their own font files for a truly unique look.

1. Open the **Font** section in the builder sidebar
2. Click **Upload Font**
3. Select your font file
4. Your custom font is added to your library and available for selection

Go to **Skins** from your dashboard sidebar. You'll see a gallery of community-created skins.

- **Sort**: Most used, latest, or most favorited

#### Applying a Skin

Click on a skin to preview it, then click **Use Skin** to apply it to your page. Your current customization will be replaced with the skin's settings.

Applying a skin will overwrite your current color and styling settings. If you want to keep your current look, save it as a skin first before applying a new one.

#### Favoriting Skins

Click the heart icon on any skin to add it to your favorites. Access your favorites quickly from the **Favorites** tab.

#### Creating a Skin

Save your current page styling as a skin that others can use:

1. Set up your page with the colors, background, and styling you want
2. Go to the **Skins** page
3. Click **Create Skin**
4. Give your skin a name and description
5. Choose visibility: **Public** (visible to everyone) or **Private** (only you can see it)
6. Save

Your skin captures your current color scheme and background settings as a reusable preset.

#### Deleting Skins

You can delete skins that you've created. Go to the **My Skins** tab and click the delete button on the skin you want to remove.

### Discord

mychar.gg cannot read your messages, access your servers, or perform any actions on your behalf beyond what's listed above.

##### Auto-Join Server

During the connection flow, you can choose to automatically join the mychar.gg Discord server. This is optional.

##### What Data Is Stored

- Your **Discord user ID**
- The **authorization** Discord gives mychar.gg for this connection, used to add you to the mychar.gg server if you choose to

Your username, avatar, and the rest of your Discord profile are not stored. They are loaded from Discord when your page is viewed.

#### Features

##### Discord Profile Card

Show your Discord profile as a card on your page. It links to your Discord profile and follows changes you make on Discord within a few minutes.

The card shows:

- Your **banner**, animated banners included, or your banner color
- Your **avatar** and **avatar decoration**
- Your **display name** in your Discord name style (font and effect, like gradient, neon, or toon)
- Your **nameplate** as the card's background, animated like on Discord
- Your **server tag**
- Your **badges**, such as HypeSquad, Early Supporter, Active Developer, Nitro, and Server Booster
- Your username and the date you joined Discord

To show or hide it:
1. Open the **builder**
2. Toggle the **Discord** section visibility on or off

Discord does not share profile effects, About Me, pronouns, or profile theme colors with other apps, so the card cannot show them. The Nitro badge shows when your profile uses a Nitro perk, like a banner, an animated avatar, or a name style. The Server Booster badge shows while you boost the mychar.gg Discord server.

##### Discord Achievements

Two achievements are tied to your Discord connection:

**Discord Member Badge** - Verify that you're a member of the mychar.gg Discord server.

1. Make sure your Discord account is connected
2. Join the mychar.gg Discord server (if you haven't already)
3. Go to **Achievements** from your dashboard
4. Click **Claim** on the Discord Member achievement

**Discord Booster Badge** - Verify that you're actively boosting the mychar.gg Discord server.

1. Make sure your Discord account is connected
2. Boost the mychar.gg Discord server
3. Go to **Achievements** from your dashboard
4. Click **Claim** on the Discord Booster achievement

Leaving the server removes the Discord Member and Booster achievements, and stopping your boost removes the Booster achievement. This happens within 12 hours. You can claim them again once you rejoin or boost again.

**Channel Banner** - Toggle whether your YouTube channel banner is displayed above your videos.

**Top Clips** - Show your channel's top clips. You can configure the number of clips displayed (default is **3**).

#### Checking Your Usage

Go to **Settings** → **Usage** to see how many files you've uploaded versus your plan limits for each category.

#### What Happens When You Hit a Limit

When you've reached the maximum for a resource type:
- You cannot upload more files of that type
- You'll see a message indicating you've hit the limit
- To free up space, delete existing files or upgrade your plan

#### Downgrading & Grace Period

When you downgrade (or your subscription expires), a **7-day grace period** begins:

- During the grace period, your existing files are preserved even if they exceed the new plan's limits
- You cannot upload new files that exceed the lower plan's limits
- Pro-only features like video backgrounds are locked immediately on downgrade
- After the 7-day grace period ends, files above the new plan's limits may be removed

Before downgrading, review your usage on the **Settings** → **Usage** page. Consider removing files you don't need to stay within your new plan's limits.

The downgrade preview on the billing page shows which files would be affected so you can prepare accordingly.

##### Views Over Time
An interactive chart showing your page views over a selected time period, so you can spot trends and see when traffic spikes happen.

#### Changing Your Username

Your username is your profile URL (`mychar.gg/yourusername`). You can change it at any time:

1. Go to **Settings**
2. Find the **Username** field
3. Enter your new username
4. Save

**Username rules:**
- 3 to 20 characters
- Lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores only
- Must be unique (if someone else has the username, you'll need to pick a different one)

Changing your username changes your profile URL. Any existing links to your old URL will stop working. Make sure to update your links everywhere after changing your username.

#### Changing Your Email

To update the email address associated with your account:

1. Go to **Settings**
2. Find the **Email** field
3. Enter your new email address
4. Save
5. Check your new email for a verification link

If you signed up with email and password, you can change your password from the security settings:

If you can't log in because you've forgotten your password:

2. Click **Forgot Password**
3. Enter the email address associated with your account

The reset link is time-limited. If it expires, request a new one from the login page.

#### Discord Login

If you signed up using Discord, you can log in with Discord at any time, no password needed. If you want to add a password to your account (so you can log in either way), use the password reset flow with your account email.

### Deleting Your Account

You can permanently delete your mychar.gg account and all associated data at any time.

#### How to Delete Your Account

1. Go to **Settings** from your dashboard
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page
3. Click **Delete Account**
4. Confirm the deletion

#### What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following is permanently removed:

- Your **character page** (`mychar.gg/yourusername`) goes offline immediately
- All your **uploaded files** (avatars, backgrounds, cursors, audio, clips, fonts) are deleted
